AFK for GDX
Today I head out for Atlanta to visit the SCAD campus there and attend GDX - the Game Developer’s Exchange, SCAD’s own micro-game developer conference. I very much enjoyed the conference last year — meeting interesting and unique people like Don Daglow, Marc Mencher, and Davey Jackson. This year we have an equally impressive crowd of industry giants coming to speak: Tracy Fullerton, Bob Bates, Ian Bogost, and Greg Costikyan among others. I am especially excited for those last two: Ian Bogost’s games and his mission with PersuasiveGames.com has had a major influence on my work, particularly my Masters thesis, and Greg Costikyan is certainly among the more eloquent and articulate writers and speakers I have known, and his opinions have heavily influenced my perception of game development and the state of the industry today. I enjoy the games of both designers, as well as the titles featured on both their sites, so I am very excited to meet them. It should prove quite a time — expect a full write-up by this time Saturday.
GDX was tied with OGDC for my favorite conference last year (and I attended something like 12 conferences in 2007). I’m envious!
I remember
I’m glad you enjoyed yourself. It’s a shame you weren’t able to make it this year — you will be missed!
